Bounced from the HuffPo!

Toby Barlow is a weasel. He leaves a stupid blog post up on the Huffington Post, and when I punched holes through it. He got me banned.

I've been a fan of the Huffington Post since it's inception, and have used the screen name timmyslagle.

I enjoy spirited political debate, and have whiled away many enjoyable hours with neighbors on the other side of the political fence. If you sift through the archives on the HuffPo, you will find many times that I have thanked Arianna Huffington, for being open to political dissent. I always believed it was one of their strong points. I have always tried to be relevant and courteous, even while others were attacking my intelligence and reputation. My good nature won me fans on both sides of the aisle.

He posted this lame blog entry, where he suggested that since the founders of Google are so smart with computers that we should listen to what they have to say about solar power.

I responded:

"Smart?

These guys also have a private Boeing 767 to get them back and forth to work. They might know computers, but they're not really good at budgeting.

Solar electricity is economically unfeasible. That's why nobody is jumping on board."

Well I certainly got Toby's attention. He came back with:

"Not good at budgeting? Bloomberg built a multi-billion dollar financial empire so I think these fellows have some financial acumen. Also, last time I checked, the cost of climate change was estimated to reach up to 20 trillion dollars globally. Those costs aren't currently added to the cost of coal powered electricity, but we'll wind up paying them down the road."

To which I responded:

"One of the biggest problems with Solar Energy is, that it takes a HUGE amount of energy to manufacture the cells. There is evidence that a Solar Cell will never return the energy it takes to manufacture one. They're great for bringing electricity to remote locations, but relatively useless a substitute for traditional energy sources."

He posted three links, which I replied:

From your link:

"telluride modules would have to convert electricity with 14 percent efficiency, and systems would have to be installed at $1.20 per watt of capacity. Current modules have 10 percent efficiency and an installed system cost of about $4 per watt."

http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?id=a-solar-grand-plan

So let me get this straight; the plan you are citing used completely fictional numbers, with a forty percent inflation of efficiency, and a seventy percent deflation of cost.

And you cited this as proof of feasibility?

You also misread the link you provided to support your speculation that the damage inflicted by global warming would be 20 trillion. 20 trillion is actually the cost of compliance. Which means that replacing fossil fuels with alternative energy is going to cost the economy 20 trillion dollars. My point is proven."

but that never got posted. Shortly thereafter, my posting privleges were revoked. I tried to post it again, from a different IP address, on two different screen names BarackObamaDrivesanSUV and MoeLarryandDavids, and both names had their posting privleges suspended shortly thereafter.

I have always endeavored to remain within the HuffingtonPost guidelines (they even once gave me a star!) I can only surmise that I was banned because of my political persuasion, something they claim never to do. According to their rules page: "We never censor comments based on political or ideological point of view."

That's a load of Hooey. Just like others on the Left, from Al Gore all the way back to Stalin there is no room for debate. Leftist politics can only thrive in an intellectual vacuum.

Update 4/29: After a stern letter to the authorities at the HuffingtonPost, they sent the following letter back:

We apologize for your erroneous banning.

A momentary glitch caused our filters to become overly sensitive, and some valued members such as yourself were inconvenienced by this as a result.

Please realize that you were in no way to blame for this, and we hope you'll continue using our service at your convenience.

So it's a "filter" that put the block on the timmyslagle account. The comment in question has been posted as well. Meanwhile my other two identities are still banned for posting the same remark. Which indicates to me, that the "filter" in question is probably a human, and he was probably severely reprimanded for his attempted censorship.

Are They Buzzed?

A recent article suggests that close to 60% of all scientists take non-medical drugs during work. Perhaps that's why it seems that everything coming out of the labs these days is dark and ominous. My latest post over at the WLS blog investigates the latest Apocalyptic prediction from our friends in the scientific community.

Unexpected Heath Risks

Well who would have thought, that Smoking bans kill more people than Second Hand Smoke. But a recent study from the University of Wisconsin, indicates that it could be very likely.

I put another post over at Jerry Agar's Blog on the WLS website. Sometimes it's better to leave well enough alone.
